Users generally want the dissertation not the Dissertation Abstract citation referenced in the OpenURL. The California Digital Library has worked with vendors to include the DAI number in the OpenURL when available to improve linking to the ProQuest Digital Dissertation database. We also convert the article citation in the OpenURL to a book to improve the chances of finding the dissertation in the OPAC and to improve the ILL request. This presentation will discuss the CDL’s solutions and provide some additional alternatives for institutions who don't license the ProQuest Digital Dissertation database.
